Job Overview:
We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Procurement Officer to manage the purchasing and supply chain operations of our grocery store. The ideal candidate will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing high-quality products at competitive prices, ensuring a consistent supply of goods for the store. You will work closely with suppliers to manage contracts and maintain strong relationships while ensuring all purchases align with store budgets and inventory needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supplier Management: Identify, evaluate, and manage relationships with reliable suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of goods.
- Purchasing: Process purchase orders for a wide range of grocery products, including fresh produce, dry goods, and household items, based on store demand and inventory levels.
- Negotiation: Negotiate contracts, prices, and terms with suppliers to secure the best deals while maintaining product quality and delivery timelines.
- Inventory Control: Collaborate with the inventory team to monitor stock levels and forecast demand, ensuring that the store is adequately stocked without overordering.
- Cost Management: Manage procurement budgets and ensure cost-effective purchasing by seeking competitive quotes and finding ways to reduce expenses without compromising quality.
- Compliance: Ensure that all purchased products comply with store policies, quality standards, and relevant regulations, including health and safety requirements.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of orders, suppliers, product details, and contract agreements for audit and review purposes.
- Market Research: Stay updated on market trends, new products, and pricing fluctuations, adjusting procurement strategies as needed.
- Supplier Evaluation: Conduct regular assessments of suppliers, including reviewing performance, product quality, and service levels.
- Reporting: Prepare and present procurement reports to management, detailing purchasing activity, cost-saving initiatives, and supplier performance.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in procurement, supply chain management, or a related field, preferably in the retail or grocery industry.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to secure favourable terms and pricing.
- Excellent organisational and multitasking skills.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with procurement software or inventory management systems.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain supplier relationships.
- Understanding of market trends, supply chain operations, and product quality standards.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business administration, or a related field.
- Experience in a grocery or retail environment.
- Knowledge of local and international food safety standards and import regulations.
- Certification in procurement or supply chain management (e.g., CIPS, CPSM).
