Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and knowledgeable Butcher to join our grocery store. The ideal candidate will have experience in cutting, trimming, and preparing meat for sale according to customer specifications and store standards. As a Butcher, you will also be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment, ensuring proper product presentation, and providing excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Meat Preparation: Cut, trim, and prepare meat cuts for sale, including beef, pork, poultry, and other meat products, according to customer requests and store standards.
- Customer Service: Provide friendly, professional service, offering advice on cuts of meat, cooking methods, and portion sizes.
- Product Display & Stocking: Ensure meat displays are stocked, attractively presented, and well-maintained throughout the day.
- Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels, assist with ordering meat and related products, and check deliveries for quality and freshness.
- Safety & Hygiene: Follow all health and safety guidelines, including proper storage, handling, and sanitation of meat products and the butcher area.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and clean butcher tools, equipment, and work areas according to safety and hygiene standards.
- Waste Management: Minimise waste by ensuring efficient cutting and portioning of meat.
- Quality Control: Inspect meat products for quality and freshness, ensuring only high-quality items are sold to customers.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with all food safety and health regulations, including proper labelling and storage of meat products.
Requirements:
- Previous experience as a butcher or in a meat department.
- Strong knowledge of different cuts of meat and meat preparation techniques.
- Excellent knife skills and experience with meat cutting equipment.
- Understanding of food safety standards and health regulations.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong customer service skills with a friendly and approachable attitude.
- Physical ability to lift heavy items and stand for extended periods.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in food safety or meat cutting.
- Experience in high-volume meat production or retail environments.
- Knowledge of speciality cuts or preparing deli-style meats.
